- The growth of intercontinental
travel, increasing life expectancy, growing number of immunodepressive
syndromes and therapeutic advances (survival of premature babies, tissue
transplatation, imunosuppressive treatment, … ) that keep more and
more immunodepressed patients in remission, require the increased participation
of parasitologists and mycologists in basic medical training (at general
and consultant levels), and continuing medical education.
This training is caried out in the second and third years of medical studies
(foundation, integrated and optional modules, Specialised Diploma of
Parasitology and Mycology, University Diploma of Tropical medecine, University
Diploma in Hospital Hygiene).
Continuing medical education :
Continuing Medical education training seminars (mycoses associated with
immunodepression, biological diagnosis of mycoses, biological diagnosis
of malaria, toxoplasmosis in pregnancy) are regularly oranised for private
medical biologists in Montpellier, Nimes and Perpignan, with handouts
and frequent individual follow-up in the laboratory.
The Parasitlogy and Mycology laboratory has eight teacher/researchers
and a hospital specialist who carry out the teaching in first, second
and third stage year students, both in Montpellier and Nimes.
